CBP x Arts Jamaica Archive / Reading Room

The Collaboratory for Black Poiēsis is working with Arts Jamaica Archive, chiefly stewarded by Jamaican British cultural worker and arts librarian Rianna Jade Parker, to support emergency community archival training, cultural stewardship, memory work, and digital preservation for folkloric and intuitive Jamaican art histories, aesthetic traditions, and other forms of cultural memory.

Arts Jamaica Archives is an independent cultural, curatorial, and archival initiative dedicated to 20th- and 21st-century Jamaican visual art, ephemera, criticism, exhibition histories, artists’ papers, audiovisual materials, and related records. It extends the legacy of Arts Jamaica, the Jamaican magazine spearheaded by Margaret Reckord Bernal from 1982 to 1986.

The CBP supports this collaboration through producing parallel research publications, information- and creative professional training implementation, accessible digital archival maintenance, and the development of Currency through Crisis: Emergency Archival Stewardship Education (EASE) Toolkit & Practicum Series. Our forthcoming Reading Room will provide mediated access to selected materials, essays, source guides, and research pathways. Arts Jamaica retains authority over its materials, public voice, and archival priorities.
